Entry revised to incorporate the very wonderful and valuable input from Eu Meng. Thanks, Meng!
Dear friends,
Rainbow Arts Project (RAP) has been selected to exhibit at SUPERMARKET 2012 next February.
Isn't that exciting!
SUPERMARKET 2012 is an independent art fair for artists-run galleries and initiatives at Kulturhuset, Sweden, and will take place from 17 to 19 February 2012.
RAP is an art collective based in Singapore. Its proposal "Merlion as Queer Symbol" was chosen to be part of the highly anticipated cultural event in Stockholm which will feature works that explore local narratives in relation to queer culture.
Participating artists are Catherine Erica Cheok, Daniela Beltrani, Dey Irfan Adianto, Ezzam Rahman, Justin Lee, Kelvin Atmadibrata, Lee Gwo Yinn, Marla Bendini and Wesley Leon Aroozoo.
I would be presenting the S377A series, and (hopefully) some new works. The S377A series, as you may know, was my response to the persecution of Mr Tan Eng Hong under S377A of the Penal Code after verbal promise in Parliament that S377A will not be actively used to persecute.
I believe this event would be a great opportunity to have our voices - queer voices - heard in Sweden, as well as the international art scenes.
Since RAP is a not-for-profit initiative and SUPERMARKET does not sponsor us in anyway, we would need your help to make this happen. I will update on the cost as more information becomes available.
1. You may like to donate directly to the fund.
2. You may want to buy one of my works. 100% of the proceeds from now till end January 2012 will go towards the fund.
Write to gwoyinn_lee@yahoo.com for more details.
Yours with gratitude,
Gwo Yinn
P.S.,
1. For buyers, I hope you would allow me to borrow the works for exhibition purpose if and when the need arises.
2. I would acknowledge all help on my blog, unless you wish to remain anonymous.
