as a gay man, how does one go about acting as straight?

IMO, it goes beyond societal standards of masculinity. In fact, some gay men are so afraid of effeminacy (simplistic, but still) that they prize and strive for such an exaggerated machismo that they end up becoming a parody of what they wanted to achieve. To me, the quality of appearing straight, not emphasizing one's gayness or rather, differences is something that cannot be forced or carefully cultivated and has nothing to do with being closeted. Part of it is a reflection of one being extremely secure in his sexuality but it also has to be in line with one's personality and natural mannerisms. Not everyone pulls this off.. but why should they aspire to?
